TxDOT, with input from communities across the state, created the Statewide Active Transportation Plan (SATP)—a long‑range vision for making it safer and easier to walk, bike, roll, and use emerging micromobility options like e‑bikes and e‑scooters through 2050. One of the SATP’s first priorities is to identify a statewide investment network for active transportation. TxDOT is launching the Active Transportation Investment Opportunity Network (ACTION) to begin this work.
What is ACTION?
ACTION builds upon SATP analysis and recommendations to develop an actionable initiative aimed at enhancing pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and connectivity across Texas. It combines public input, stakeholder collaboration, and data analysis to help each TxDOT district:
- Understand current and future active transportation needs
- Assess existing infrastructure
- Identify opportunities for on‑system and key off‑system network improvements
- Align with previous and ongoing planning efforts
Why Your Input Matters
Public engagement for ACTION builds on conversations from the SATP and the District Bike Plans. The goal is to prioritize TxDOT on-system roadway corridors for future active transportation investments.
Through this outreach, we’re seeking feedback on:
- Challenges you face moving around your community
- Opportunities to improve safety and connectivity
- Criteria used to prioritize corridors
- Additional ideas that can shape the statewide active transportation network
Your insights will help identify priority corridors for future investment and support a more connected, accessible Texas.
